Conductance

The reciprocal of resistance (R) is conductance (G), which is measured in siemans (S). Hence:

Equation: G = 1 / R

Worked Example 1

Find the conductance of a conductor of resistance 27 Ω.
Show / hide answer

G = 1 / R = 1 / 27

  = 0.037 S = 37 mS

Worked Example 2

Find the resistance of a conductor with a conductivity of 5 mS.
Show / hide answer

Transposing the above equation to make R the subject gives:

R = 1 / G = 1 / 0.005

  = 200 Ω
